Im Format der Dokusoap entstand Real Artist Life – Das wahre Künstlerleben nach einer ein­gehenden Beschäftigung mit klischee­haften Darstellungen von Künstler*?innen in Film- und Fernseh­produk­tio­nen. Die Arbeit erforscht das Verhältnis von medialer Inszenierung und Lebens­realität von Künstler*innen und nutzt dabei die stilistischen Mittel einer Dokusoap, etwa eine wackelige Hand­kamera, die vorgibt Realität abzubilden. Im Selbstexperiment zeichnet die Künstlerin Beobachtungen aus dem eigenen Berufsalltag auf. In vier Episo­den sehen wir annette hollywood im Kunstbetrieb agieren. Wir haben teil an der Entstehung von Werken, begleiten sie beim Ausstellungsaufbau und im Austausch mit Kolleg*innen. Gezeigt wird auch die sonst meist unsichtbare Seite der Existenz vieler Künstler*innen: Brotjobs in häufig prekären Beschäftigungsverhältnissen, etwa, wie in der Folge Baden gehen mit der Avantgarde, in einem Schwimmbad.

In the format of a docu-soap, Real Artist Life – Das wahre Künstlerleben was created after an intense exploration of clichéd depictions of artists in film and television. The work explores the relationship between media staging and the life reality of artists and in so doing uses the stylistic means of a docu-soap, like a wobbly handheld camera, which claim to depict reality. Using herself as the subject of her experiment, the artist records observations from her own professional everyday life. In four episodes, we see annette hollywood operating in the art world. We take part in the creation of artworks, join her in installing an exhibition and exchanges with colleagues. We also see the otherwise invisible side of an artist’s life: bread-and-butter jobs in frequently precarious employment, as in the episode Baden gehen mit der Avantgarde [Take A Bath with the Avant-Garde], which is set in a swimming pool.
