Die interaktive Karaoke-Installation basiert auf den von annette hollywood auch in anderen Werken verwendeten Art Songs, in denen sie in bekannten Lovesongs das Wort love mit art austauscht. Die Lyrics von sieben dieser Songs sind hier effektvoll als Video animiert und laden ebenso wie die Projektion einer Vorsängerin zum Singen ein. Gerahmt wird Art Karaoke von einer Sitzskulptur in Form einer überdimensionierten Malerpalette, in deren langen Pinseln sich die Mikrofone befinden. Das Publikum kann auf Farbtöpfen Platz nehmen und singend sein leidenschaftliches Verhältnis zur Kunst zum Ausdruck bringen – von Art Is in the Air bis Art Hurts. Die Reflektion über Bedeutung und Funktion von Kunst findet hier im gemeinschaftlichen Akt des Karaoke Singens statt, eine spielerische Version von Lessons in Art.

The interactive karaoke installation is based on the art songs that annette hollywood also used in other works, in which she replaces the word “love” with the word “art” in well-known love songs. The lyrics of seven of these songs are animated in a powerful way as a video and invite the audience to sing along, as does the projection of a singer. Art Karaoke is framed by a sitting sculpture in the form of an oversized painting palette, in the long brushes the microphones can be found. The audience can take a seat on the paint cans and sing about their passionate relationship to art—from “Art Is in the Air” to “Art Hurts.” The reflection on the meaning and function of art can be found in the joint act of Karaoke singing, a playful version of “Lessons in Art.”
